March 8th is International Women's Day; Care2 members have been generous enough to share their thoughts here.
My name is Sílvia Silva; I am 34 years old and come from Portugal.??Referring to the upcoming International Women's Day maybe we have reasons to celebrate some achievements but still have a long way to go. For instance, at this moment if I were employed I could be experiencing one of those inequalities. The Portuguese government complains about the decreasing population but its economic models and labor policies do not act as a stimulus to parenthood. I also reckon that one of the most important fields, in order to empower women, is education. Therefore, every child, girl and woman should attend school to increase their skills, reasoning and critical thought. We can only fight for our rights if we have access to information and the know-how to deal with that same information. As a woman and as a future mother of a young little man, I already feel I have a double responsibility to raise my child with the value of equality and considering women as equal, as bright, as responsible, as strong, as everything we can and should be.
Shaz E. says As March 8th draws closer, my thoughts and prayers are with the millions of women and girls who are trafficked across international and local borders in the name of sex. ??My heart goes out to these women and girls who are sold into sexual slavery and forced to do the worst things. ??My hope is that days like March 8th will highlight the plight of these women and girls, to bring their plight into our consciousness, that we not just remember them and feel outraged. But that we stand up and do something.
alicia m. says I hope one day Women's Day would not be necessary any more... in the meantime HAPPY 8TH MARCH!
Teresa Wlosowicz says In Poland, Women's Day was widely celebrated under socialism. Unfortunately, it has now been ridiculed as a communist festival. Those who spread such propaganda consciously conceal the fact that originally, Women's Day was founded in the U.S. to honour the earliest feminists.
Scott Steiner says Please watch the DVD Generation M. It deals with Misogyny in the Media. This is a powerful movie to show that we still have a long way to go for Women's equal rights here in the USA and around the world.
Bee Hive Lady says What is all the arguing women's voices will never be given the same respect as those of men.
Sharon S. says Women in our town are gathering on Saturday to celebrate with tea, and a silent auction, and as a treat, we have a guest who is our elected provincial representative, a young woman who may well be PM one day. She's going to tell us about her recent trip to Cambodia.
Leia P. says We need to remember corrective rape victims in South Africa
Pam H. says It seems that feminism has become a dirty word in some areas of today’s society. We need to teach generations X, Y etc about the hard work the early feminists did for them, how hard they had to fight for the vote and equal opportunities and recognition of their efforts and worth in society. (On serious issues, women were not even listened to or taken seriously back then). For without them, these younger generations would not have the freedoms they have today. But we still have a long way to go.
Carole H. says I’m having a party to celebrate - cheers to all women everywhere
Radiant Cordero says In my American Studies/Women's Studies class, we are reflecting and re-learning how women (generalized) were treated in the 1600s - 1800s. Everything in between that, such as the Seneca Falls Convention has shown that the fight for rights has been highly notable and continues to be. Keep on keepin' on!
Jennifer Hughes says I know that you have a writer on the Education cause, Kristina C., who has a son with autism and writes many posts on autism, which I always find fascinating and informative. I think you should do a post on autism and girls/women. A lot of the autism thinking/writing tends to be very androcentric, and female autistics may be overlooked and under diagnosed or receive fewer/less appropriate services when they are diagnosed.
Marion Yole says I love my wonderful women's group that I have been a part of for over 12 years. They inspire me and support me. I feel blessed to have so many wonderful women friends. Thanks Jessica Ortner for the free Tappingworld summit; it was an amazing ten days and I really appreciate you sharing this technique with the world to make it a better place. Google EFT Tapping if you are interested in this good health producing technique. I loved my mom so much before she dies and her memory always comes up on International Women's Day because she was such a good role model of a kind, caring, compassionate, empathetic, and hard working woman. God bless all you women out there. ?We can make a difference every day by thinking with intention about all the positive acts women do every day and believe that we can continue to inspire by our daily acts of kindness and love.
Maria Luisa O. says dia da mulher é todos os dias. Dou graças a DEUS por viver num país onde as mulheres são livres. Desejo liberdade para todas as mulheres do mundo inteiro
Susan Church says Please support the valuable and life-changing work of Women For Women International and sponsor a sister to become self-sufficient and knowledgeable about human rights. www.womenforwomen.org
murray m. says The Holy Bible says woman was created to compliment man, to be a companion to him, to take part equally in decisions, to agree. False religion, world wide, uses the good book to fortify their evil desires to belittle, look down upon, use, abuse---women. That is why America is a country of civil law, not religious contrived law, as in middle eastern theocracies.??Keep this quote from Scott:
Women were made from a man's rib, not from his head to be superior, not from his feet to be walked on; but from his side to be Equal, from under the arm to be Protected,?and from next to the Heart to be Loved! Become KNOWLEDGEABLE about your BIBLE. it will make your day, your year, your life, much better.
CLAUDIA Z. says I can call womens from all arround a world....mothers nature! Procreation it's divine gift who our lord give us! God bless all womens from all arround the world!
Harriet J. B. says What is the difference between an "equity feminist" and a "gender feminist"? ?If it is what I think it is, I am an "equity feminist".
Becky W. says Mr. Shakespeare, lend an ear: The stages of women do now appear. The scene is set, the dye is cast… You’ve heard some of what’s coming next…?… All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players. They have their exits and their entrances And each woman in her time plays many parts. Her acts being seven ages. At first, the infant, Mewling and puking in her mother’s arms; Then the whining school-girl, with her pigtails And shining, morning face, gathering friends together, Giggling and skipping off to school And then the wife, Full of oaths, playing roles, Holding together the chasm. Jealous in honour, suddenly confused by Reality Seeking the promised “Happy Ever After” The greater part of humanity.??Written by Becky W
Marge M. says We all must help our sisters everywhere
Candace C. says Wow in all of this, the best comment on women comes from a man. It is right we need to trust ourselves. Ours is an even more difficult road since even within our gender there is so much dissention as to what's good for us. ?It's so difficult to get past the beliefs of men according to the written books of "men" in religion which is truly what these are. These are the perceptions of men during times where anything not understood was treated as WRONG as a form of control. Women were kept under control by the words of these powerful men "of wisdom and religion" too. It made life easier. ?Still today we find the most strigent laws to control women in the countries where "Religious control" is still the way of life.?Thankfully even the women in these countries are taking the baby steps to their freedom. Through exposure to the outside they are finding out that this tyrrany isn't unbeatable. They are more than brave. The laws are "set in stone" to control. Many women will not survive the revolution as in any war.?I hope in seeing and hearing of these brave wonderful women we regain our momentum. We are wonderful. We need to start really believing that and pull away from the pettiness that keeps us down. Remember the real goal!!!
Alicia Nuszloch says WOMEN from all places are AMAZING !!!!!! and the ones who are mothers the BEST !!! CONGRATULATIONS on our day and let's DO always good, God bless us all, thanks.
