There is a state called Poland in the middle of the Europe. For unclear reasons to me, Poland is described as a part of Eastern Europe. This qualification is more mental than geographical because Poles are being perceived as homophobes. This stereotype strengthens Poles’ image as fanatic Catholics whose intolerance results from conservatism and is deeply rooted in the state’s long history. There is nothing more false than that! There is only few countries in the world where history of social tolerance was of such great importance, as in Poland.

At a meeting chaired by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, an openly gay cleric was shortlisted for the high profile role of Bishop of Southwark, London.
If Dr Jeffrey John, the Dean of St Albans, is successful, he will become the most senior openly gay clerics in the Church of England.
In 2003, Dr Dean was forced to reject his appointment as Bishop of Reading after it emerged he was in a long term but celibate relationship with another man, who he entered into a civil partnership with in 2006.
The final decision on the appointment of bishops is made by the Queen on the advice of the prime minister David Cameron. Mr Cameron is understood to be minded to back Dr John's appointment and has criticised the Church in the past for its anti-gay approach to the appointment of senior clerics.

GME Editorial opinion
23.6.2010
Syria has in the last two years improved its treatment of its LGBT citizens, as compared to the period we have been monitoring 2003-2007. In what follows we outline a very short description of the reality of LGBT communities, in the period mentioned above, then briefly discuss attitude of the government to HIV/AIDS and detect current trends and development. We conclude with recommendations for the Syrian government. GME was very pleased to discern this more positive trend but all the more disappointed with the recent turn of events. In the last few months Syria has began clamping down on gay men, is this an apparent reversal of its policy? We call upon Syria to continue and reform its laws, like its neighbours to the north (Turkey) and south (Jordan), in abolishing anti-LGBT articles from its penal code. This will increase safety and resolve problems that Syrian authorities even indirectly admit they face, let alone alleviate the suffering of its LGBT citizens.

International Network for Trans Despathologization
MANIFESTO
The advocates and groups who sign this document, and are part of the International Network for Trans’ Identities’ Despathologization, publicly denounce once again the psychiatrization of our identities and the serious consequences of the so called “Gender or Sex Identity Disorder” (GID). In the same way, we want to make visible the violence done to intersex people throughout the current medical procedures.
